    Form no Form (workshop)

    10am - 11:30am

Malonga Casquelourd Center is located at 1428 Alice Street, in downtown Oakland between 14th and 17th Streets.

    Form no Form

Through the repetition of form, we train our bodies to achieve balance, internal and external connectivity and precision. In this workshop, various proposals and exercises are presented that both establish and disrupt physical form to engage the principles that lay underneath our practice. We work rigorously to disrupt and embrace habits. Physical puzzles, deep listening and engaged physical conversations promote attentive listening.

    Workshop for Men

    6:30pm - 9:30pm

Mountain Home Studio 15 Ravine Way, Kentfield CA 94904

Please join us for Dance With Anna Halprin: "Workshop For Men" Anna Halprin in collaboration with Shinichi lova-Koga.

In early times men were strong dancers. They danced for the welfare of their community, to make the crops grow, to bring sun or rain and become strong warriors.

Shinichi lova-Koga will lead you in a session to free the body and dance as men dance. All men are welcome, no dance experience necessary.

    REGISTER HERE

Shinichi will encourage physical and mental receptivity, a reduction of contracted muscles and awareness of minute bodily adjustments and interior textures. Our aim is to integrate polarities within the body, the inside/outside, left/right, head/toe, visceral/refined, image/sensate. This builds a coherent body ready to embrace the chaotic stream of the subconscious. Participants are asked to commit to the unknown. We will move, sound and speak in duets, solos and groups. Wear loose clothing and be prepared to shed your planning mind.

    Beowulf

    1 hour before sunset

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

    Beowulf

This production of BEOWULF radically departs from that most ancient poem of the same name. When we peel back the layers of story and character, what reveals itself? What dreams emerge? As we tell tales of legendary heroes and monsters, we also reflect on our current times. Join us to discover the weapons of word, body and sound created by We Players, inkBoat and Rova Saxophone Quartet in this epic battle to discover our humanity through the lens of monstrosity.

    Action Theater Workshop

Western Sky Studio: 2525 8th St, #13A, Berkeley, CA, 94710

Taught by Cassie Tunick and Shinichi Iova-Koga, this workshop builds on the awakened physical body as a vehicle to express experience, including the experience of the imagination, with depth, precision, and delight. Awareness and play are fundamental revealers of spontaneity and we play extravagantly and subtly with how we occupy our own presence. We explore both solo and ensemble scores through exercises that are simple, playful and challenging. (more)

The Wild Thing: Physical Theater & Somatics Workshop in Berlin

    9am - 5pm daily

    Re-Entering the Body’s Natural Wilderness

The Wild Thing activates the electric presence necessary for all performative arts. This workshop combines deep somatic awareness work with the imagistic play available in Butoh dance, the detailed body research within Qi Gong, and the raw expression of Action Theater™ improvisation. Starting with sensory awareness work, you gradually advance into dynamic movement and voice exploration. You re-enter the wild sensory world of full breath and physicality, re-unite with quiet and an inner stillness, and yield into the softness required for wild expression.
