The Storm in My House (CANCELLED due to COVID-19.)Friday May 22, 8:00 PM Saturday May 23, 3:00 PM
San Francisco International Arts Festival, Cowell Theater
The Storm in My House excavates the perceived lines between peoples, lands and values. We cannot know the outcome. We question and embody what can be done to survive, live in a home, be kind, play and embrace the changes that will come. We also ask for grace as we face the storm. Inside the performance you will find the song maker, the twisted dancer, the listener and the interplay of darkness and the light that defines it. There is despair. There is hope. Performed by Shinichi Iova-Koga, Kamerin McDonald and Suki O’Kane. Lighting by Allen Willner. Sets and Props by Frank Lee.
CANCELLED due to COVID-19. Stay tuned for a video version of the performance.
Action Theater with Shinichi (CANCELLED due to COVID-19.)10:00 - 16:00
Western Sky Studio, Berkeley, CA
Each step, sound, word or action we generate extends an invitation to those around us, prompting a series of responses and interactions which become the flesh and bones of a new organism. Provided that we remain aware of this relationship, it lives. To craft this life, we play with timing and space while connecting to our internal feeling states. We learn to say “yes” to the unknown, allowing the situation to develop its own logic, personality and energy.
CANCELLED due to COVID-19.

Dao Yin TrainingTBA
This training focuses on the interconnected nature of soft tissues (including fascia), muscle, bone and the various regions of the body. Dao Yin exercises work by opening and stretching the channels of the body so that they are enabled to cleanse themselves and develop a more resilient, strong and healthy system. Much of the physical activity involves spiral motion, extension and the connecting of various body centers to the limbs, promoting awareness of energetic channels within the body and the opening of joints and tissues.
Butoh – Deconstruct the DarknessTBA
Butoh Dance arrived on the scene through a deconstructive process. Never fixed in culture or time, this dance remains a personal investigation. Examine bodily actions through the filters of image (ie: your feet have melted), condition (ie: become rigid like a corpse) and ethos (ie: your body is not your own). Develop energy-efficient and fluid states through which impulses can travel through the body with minimal resistance. Then, limit movement to create intensive examinations within small frames. Send power through the system and then drain it and sink weight until the most essential and poignant impulses remain. The training will encourage physical and mental receptivity as well as precise physical engagement. Build a coherent body ready to embrace the chaotic stream of the subconscious.

The Ones We Fell Among20:00
inkboat commissions award winning interdisciplinary artist, Ann Carlson to make The Ones We Fell Among. This multi-phased performance project muses and reflects upon the movements, mythologies, behaviors and perceptions of earth’s largest land mammal, the elephant. With wild quiet and clumsy grace, Carlson borrows from the real, the imagined, and the symbolic to build a world of wonder and reckoning for master performers Shinichi lova-Koga and Dana lova-Koga.
